## Overview

Sunset Roaster ("the App") is a personal sunset photo journal. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the App accesses, how it is used, and your choices.

**The short version:** Your photos, notes, and location data stay on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers.

## Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your device only:

- **Photos** you capture or select for your sunset journal entries
- **Location data** (coordinates and place names) associated with your entries or set manually for sunset time calculations
- **Notes** you write for each entry
- **App preferences** such as notification settings and your chosen reminder timing

All of this data is stored in your device's local storage using Apple's SwiftData framework and the app's documents directory. None of it is transmitted to any server.

## Device Permissions

The App may request the following permissions. Each is optional and requested only when you use a feature that requires it:

- **Camera:** Used to photograph sunsets directly within the App. Requested only when you choose to take a photo.
- **Location (When In Use):** Used to tag your sunset entries with a location and to calculate sunset times for your area. Requested only when you tap "Find My Location."
- **Notifications:** Used to send you local reminders before sunset. Requested only when you enable Sunset Reminders after purchasing Sunset Reminders Pro.

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in your device's Settings app.

## Photo Library Access

The App uses Apple's PHPickerViewController to let you choose photos from your library. This system-provided picker does not require full photo library access — the App can only see the specific photos you select. The App reads photo metadata (such as GPS coordinates embedded in the image) to auto-detect where a sunset was captured.

## In-App Purchases

The App offers a one-time, non-subscription purchase ("Sunset Reminders Pro") to unlock sunset reminder notifications. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. The App does not collect or have access to your payment information.

## Data Collection and Tracking

The App does **not**:

- Collect or transmit any personal data to external servers
- Use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs
- Track you across apps or websites
- Use device fingerprinting or advertising identifiers
- Create user accounts or profiles
- Share data with third parties

## Third-Party Services

The App uses the following Apple system services, which are governed by [Apple's Privacy Policy](<https://www.apple.com/privacy/>):

- **Apple MapKit / Core Location:** For geocoding (converting coordinates to place names and vice versa) and displaying map views
- **Apple StoreKit:** For processing in-app purchases
- **Apple UserNotifications:** For scheduling local sunset reminders

The App includes the [Nuke](<https://github.com/kean/Nuke>) open-source library for efficient image caching. Nuke operates entirely on-device and does not transmit any data.

No other third-party services or SDKs are used.

## Data Retention and Deletion

All App data is stored locally on your device. You can delete individual sunset entries within the App at any time. To remove all App data, delete the App from your device.

## Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since no data is collected from any user, no age-specific data handling is required.

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
